MORE ON CHAFEE [Mackubin Owens]

Chafee is a disgrace.

In February 2002, I was invited to give some remarks at the North Kingstown Republican Town Committee's Annual Lincoln Day Dinner. This is a big event each year and all of the Rhode Island Republicans are there. The title of my speech that night was "Abraham Lincoln, the American Founding, and the Principles of the Republican Party," which I think at some point was published on NRO. In any event, Chafee was there and sitting at a table right in front of the podium. When I reached the penultimate paragraph of my speech, I looked right at him and said:

"As the country music philosopher, Aaron Tippin, said in a song a few years back, "you've got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything." Republicans have traditionally stood for limited government to protect equal rights. If the Party of Lincoln ever abandons its fealty to the principles of the Declaration, it will become little more than a pale imitation of the redistributionist Democratic Party. And Republicans can never hope to match the Democrats in offering a government solution for every problem, real or imagined."

Chafee's face turned absolutely scarlet.

I heard from a party guy later that evening that Chafee was livid. I was elated.
Shortly after 9/11, I was talking to a friend of mine who is a TV reporter. He is a great guy but his politics are conventionally liberal. He was disgusted with Chafee because when he asked for Chafee's response to the attacks, our senator wouldn't give him an answer. Apparently, he needed to see what others thought first. Even liberals are disgusted by Chafee's lack of backbone.

I voted for him in 2000. I will never pull the lever for him again. As a Southerner, I come from a long line of "Yellow-Dog Democrats" and in keeping with this legacy, I will vote for a yellow dog before I will vote for this spineless disgrace. Posted at 01:51 PM

Dec 7 And The Modern Democrat's Response To War

Today is the 64th anniversary of the unprovoked attack by Japanese Fascists on the US, an attack that moblized the entire nation in a war against Japan and Germany.

Looking back on that day and on the way people reacted makes you wonder if people like John Phraud Kerrie, John "don't attack him, he's a war hero"Murtha,Hillary "I was intimidated" Rodham, and the rest of the liberal intelligentsia had been in charge of the "loyal" opposition.

Imagine the parade of "experts" on the radio telling a frustrated populous that we were at fault.

That we cut off the petroleum that Japan needed to wage it's "justified war" against the Anti-Communist Chinese government. After all the Japanese were just fighting a war brought on to them by outside influences.

Americans would been subjected daily to stories of how a cabal of Pro-Jewish Anti-German policy makers were forcing the government to fight the "misunderstood" Nazis. They would have been reminded daily of how the Nazis were trying to rebuild a nation ravaged by unfair taxation imposed on them by the "imperialist war mongers" who defeated Germany in the previous war.

If the war had been allowed to go forward Americans would have heard daily about the training and battlefield deaths of the "poor children" who had been forced to join the service to find work in a "depressed" economy.

The 12/7 Committee would have started hearings while American boys were getting ready to invade North Africa. The harping on how the government handled the Pre-war intel while "accidentally" reporting secrets about the ongoing war.

And heaven forbid the present media was able it investigate the interment of Japanese Aliens and Japanese/Americans.

Now why did nothing like this happen then?

Is it just because modern Americans are more likely to be traitors in the way they view the actions of their government?

Or is it the simple fact that all of the policies that lead to WWII and that were part of the way we acted during the war were set in place by an icon of the Left? A man who went into the White House with the avowed purpose to change the way America was governed?

On this day let us remember the men and women who died not just that day, but all the days before and after, so that we could live in a free and prosperous Nation.

Let us also hope that our children's children will know of those sacrifices and of the ones that are being made daily in the current war on Fascism known as the War On Terror.

Lies From Al-Reuters / Truth From Black Five

Blackfive has a great post from Uncle Jimbo (no relation).
He talks about the reaction to the "news" that the government is paying for advertisements in Iraqi newspapers to tell the Iraqis the truth about what is happening in their country, while repeating a story about the capture of Ramadi by the insurgents.
The story reported by our 'friends" at al-Reuters, completely misrepresents the facts about a battle in that city. And like all good lies, each retelling grew further and further from the truth.

We should expect nothing less from people who have written the story in
their head before they get to "the quote/unquote scene of the crime."I thank you
guys for keeping the heat on these sorry excuses for humanity. Maybe they will
finally get the hint that we don't need them any more, we get our news unfiltered
thanks to the internet and the blog-o-sphere.

Yesterday, the White House published a 35 page missive entitled "Victory in Iraq". It's a great outline of a cohesive plan for achieving ultimate success in the conflict against the insurgents and seeing a friendly democratic government in that uneasy part of the globe. Of course, the usual suspects quickly jumped in front of TV cameras to tell us how much nothing the President's speech and his blueprint for victory contained.
What I found most interesting is that most of these leaders of the "loyal" opposition had the same excuse for voting to go to war before coming out against it. They were all duped. Duped. Bamboozled. Hornswaggled. Fooled. However you care to describe it, they all claim that resident George W. Bush whom the Left believes to be a complete dolt pulled the wool over their eyes. So lets talk about this. The smartest woman to ever serve in the U.S. Senate (Hillary Rodham Clinton) was fooled. Fooled and intimidated! The greatest war hero to ever serve in the U. S. Senate (John Forbes Kerry) was hoodwinked by a man he clearly believes to be his intellectual inferior. Now, these two both want to be President. I don't know about you but I don't think I want someone who can be fooled by a dolt sitting in the big chair. I think the Left really needs to clarify their stance. Is George Bush an amiable dunce or is he a Machiavellian genius.
You can't have it both ways. In case you are wondering how our own intrepid delegation responded, Linc Chafee (R) Virginia, also swallowed the koolaid and decried the plan as greatly wanting. Wave in the rearview mirror Senator, that's Steve Laffey pulling up behind you. Senator Jack Reed of course said whatever Chuck Shumer told him to say. I suggest you log onto www.whitehouse.gov and see the plan for yourself and then you decide.
