An Open Letter To Sen. Dole and the NRSC

This e-mail is regarding the National Republican Senatorial Committee's involvement in the Rhode Island Republican Primary race.
First off I would like to thank you for all the great things you have done for this nations as a private citizen and as a US Senator. But I must take exception to the NRSC's attacks on Cranston Mayor Stephen P. Laffey. You cite the fact that taxes have been raised 2 out of the last 3 years that Mayor Laffey has been there, while not discussing why that had to be done. Cranston had the LOWEST bond rating that a city could receive when Laffey was elected, it has since gone up 5 points. You fail to mention the 5 times that Senator Chaffee raised taxes as Mayor of the City of Warwick, a city not in financial trouble at the time.
The quote from committee Press Secretary Brian Nick that "we also happen to believe very passionately that he is the best Republican to have on the ticket to ensure this seat stays in Republican hands" shows a total lack of understanding of who Lincoln Chafee is.
Durring the Last Presidential election Senator Chafee told anyone in Rhode Island who would listen that he was not going to vote for the INCUMBENT REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT.If this is the "best hope" then maybe you should reconsider the idea of a Republican from RI.
In closing I would like to remind you of the Committee's support of Sen Spector over Rep. Pat Toomey in PA last year. How is that working out? Let's ask Judge Roberts!
